A basic reader from the 1960s put out by the Curriculum Foundation Series which "broadens the familiar concept of friends to include animals of the real world and characters in fanciful tales." In the first unit, "School Friends," we encounter our old friends Dick and Jane, the second unit, "Animal Friends," features family pets, farm and zoo animals and small wild creatures, while the third unit, "Storybook Friends," introduces the world of fantasy. The young reader is exposed to a carefully paced increase of difficulty in interpretation and word perception with a total vocabulary by the end of the book of 329 words.
Color illustrations throughout by Richard H. Wiley, Jack White and Rod Ruth.
