New York Grosset & Dunlap 1947 Reprint Edition Hard Cover Very Good - No Jacket 


244 pp., green cloth boards with round picture of the four twins on the front board. This copy was published in 1947 (c. 1928) utilizing Grosset & Dunlap Format #11 as described by James D. Keeline (green pressed board cover stock, red and cream "tree" endpapers, frontispiece illustration on plain paper stock). Boards show a little soiling and edgewear, with corners chipped and "The Bobbsey Twins" written in crayon on the back. Text is browned, but clean and unmarked.

The book opens with the twins getting ready for the annual summer church picnic with their schoolmates held by the Lakeport Church at Oak Grove, but before the end of the first chapter, Bert is challenged to a fight by bully boy Joe Norton. And no sooner is that settled, then there's more trouble!

216 pp., green cloth boards with paste-on illustration by Thelma Gooch. This copy was published between 1927 and 1931 (c. 1913) utilizing Grosset & Dunlap Format #5 as described by James D. Keeline (green cloth cover stock with a coarse weave, blank endpapers, frontispiece plus 3 internals tipped in on glossy stock). Boards show rubbing and edgewear, with corners chipped and webbing exposed at spine bottom. A few pages have smudges, but text is basically light and clean.

The Bobbsey twins are coming home on the train from their summer vacation when they are stopped by a circus train wreck on the tracks ahead. In the confusion a special silver cup and their cat Snoop are lost, then shortly after they return home, someone sets a fire and their boathouse burns down. What a prelude to the start of school and the adventures that follow!

The text is the expanded text which dates from 1928, The publication date of this copy is 1945 as determined by the publication date of the last Bobbsey Twins book to be listed on the front flap. Pages are tanned, Table of Contents present but detached, some pages trimmed shorter than others, a few pages have tears. DJ shows chipping along edges and spine. DJ is enclosed in protective mylar wrap. Cover art is by Thelma Gooch, frontispiece is by Marie Schubert.
