Feist, Raymond E. King of Foxes (Conclave of Shadows Book 2) London Voyager 2003 0002246821 / 9780002246828 First UK Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good McKenna, Martin (cover)
Black cloth with gold lettering on spine, 374 pp. 1st UK edition. Corners bumped, slight edge wear and rubbing. Jacket has a little edge wear and rubbing, mostly at base of spine. An attractive copy. Second in the Conclave of Shadows trilogy (after 'Talon of the Silver Hawk') -- another saga in Feist's ongoing tales of Midkemia. "Talon, last of the Orosini tribe has been transformed by the Conclave of Shadows from a trusting young boy to the dashing young nobleman Talwin Hawkins, now Roldem's premier swordsman. The title, won at the Masters' Court, before the King, brought him a step closer to his desire - to avenge the massacre of his family. Two participants in the slaughter are already dead by his hand; Lieutenant Campaneal fell under his blade during the Masters' Tournament, and Raven, the mercenary captain, died whilst trying to butcher an Orodon village, just as he destroyed Tal's people. "But Tal's desire for vengeance will not be satisfied until the reason for the massacres has been uncovered and their architect revealed and punished. The Conclave demands its membership price from Tal: he must gather information on Laso Varen, a magician of terrible power and subtle craft, dangerous beyond contemplation. And to do this means service with the sorcerer's master, Duke Kaspar of Olasko - swearing loyalty to the very man who ordered the destruction of everything Tal loved. "Tal must now face the dilemma of serving two masters, two deadly enemies: Kaspar of Olasko and the Conclave of Shadows. " 007597 Price:

A dread race of serpents, they continue their merciless conquest of the farther reaches of Midkemia, on a seemingly unstoppable drive to enslave the entire population. "Friends since childhood, noble Erik and cunning Roo have survived numerous trials to bring a warning to the rulers of the Empire, and are now free to pursue their individual desires. Ever loyal, Erik chooses to remain in the army to confront Midkemia's enemies. Roo's ambitions, however, are for wealth and power. And through a combination of skill, luck, diplomacy, and bare-knucled boldness - and a timely marriage to the daughter of a wealthy merchant - the crafty charmer rises high and fast in the world of trade ... and attains riches beyond his dreams. "But with luxury come carelessness and a vulnerability to the desires of the flesh - as the ruthless machinations of a beautiful seductress threaten so obliterate everything that Roo has built and all that he has become by summoning catastrophe into his future ... and terror into his world.
