Leicester Ulverscroft Large Print Hard Cover Good + Good + Ex-Library
Maroon cloth with gold lettering, 238 pp plus two page list of other Ulverscroft large print titles. Ex-library twice so there are many stamps. Back end paper shows evidence of first pocket being removed and current pocket attached. Spine a bit cocked, corners bumped, a little edge wear, boards slightly bowed. Jacket in new Brodart, a little edge wear with some chipping at corners, spine has a 2" x 1" paper lift, likely where original library label has been removed. Some tanning but text is clean and unmarked. Overall, a very serviceable copy of this large print edition. "That eminent Actor Manager, Mr. Abercrombie Lewker, had distinguished himself during the war as a Special Agent of our Secret Intelligence Service, and so his old chief appealed to him for help in investigating the activities of a certain Monsieur Leon Jacot, who had recently appeared in the French political firmament. There was also a particular reason for the choice of Mr. Lewker, for he, like Jacot, was an ardent Alpinist and both were planning a climbing holiday in Switzerland. The reader will soon discover another Alpinist in the author, whose descriptions of Swiss mountains and climbing technique is a notable feature of this book; but, apart from this, his cleverly constructed story presents the neatest imaginable puzzle in detection."
