1 Carr, John Dickson (aka Carter Dickson) Fire, Burn!
New York Harper & Brothers 1957 First American Edition Hardcover Very Good in Good+ dust jacket
Illustrated by Anderson, Rus (cover)

Black cloth over reddish brown cloth, white lettering, 265 pp, 'Notes for the Curious' at end. Spine slightly cocked, corners worn, minor edge wear, some darkening to pastedowns and edges. "London was wrapped in fog when Inspector John Cheviot got into a 20th century taxi. The city was still fogbound when he got out - but the cab was a hackney coach, and the year was 1829. There were things Cheviot remembered but could not use - like how to analyze fingerprints. And things he didn't know that he could have used - like how far advanced his love affair with the beautiful Lady Drayton really was. But there wasn't time to learn, because Cheviot suddenly found himself pitted against the cleverest murderer of his long Scotland Yard career."; 7¾" - 9¾" Tall

It had come from a tomb that Helen and her father had helped excavate. At the door, Helen stepped out of the car, leaving her friends to follow her into the Hall. Less than three minutes later they did-and Helen had vanished. On the floor, in the middle of the vast entrance hall, were her coat-and the bronze lamp!"; 6¾" - 7¾" Tall
