Corners bumped, slight edge wear. An attractive copy. ; 6" - 7" Tall; 209 pages;

"Hugh had been taught that, according to the ancient sacred writings, the Ship was on a voyage to faraway Centaurus. But he also understood this was actually allegory for a voyage to spiritual perfection. Indeed, how could the Ship move, since its miles and miles of metal corridors were all there was of creation? Science knew that the Ship was all the Universe, and as long as the sacred Convertor was fed, the lights would continue to glow and the air would flow, and the Creator's Plan would be fulfilled.
" Of course, there werre the muties, grotesquely deformed parodies of humans, who lurked in the upper reaches of the Ship where gravity was weaker. Were they evil incarnate, or merely a divine check on the population, keeping humanity from expanding past the capacity of the Ship to support?
" Then Hugh was captured by the muties and met their leader (or leaders) Joe-Jim, with two heads on one body. And he learned the true nature of the Ship and its mission between the stars. But could he make his people believe him before it was too late? Could he make them believe that he must be allowed to fly the ship? "

Very minor edgewear/bumping. A bright, tight, attractive copy.

"Something was out to get him! After that firewalking gig in Polynesia, the whole world was suddenly changed around him. Instead of fundamentalist minister Alexander Hergensheimer, he was now supposed to be Alec Graham, an underworld figure in the middle of an affair with his stewardess Margrethe - who was the only good thing in the whole mess. Then there was an impossible iceberg that wrecked the ship in the tropics. Rescued by a Royal Mexican plane, they were hit by a double earthquake. From then on, as changed world followed changed world, things went from bad to worse. To Alex, all the signs increasingly pointed to Armageddon and the Day of Judgment. And Margrethe was a determined heathen. Somehow he had to bring her to a state of grace, for Heaven would be no paradise without her. But time was growing short. Somewhere, there had to be a solution to it al. And, of course, there was. But it was truly a Hell of a solution."; 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall

Rocket Ship Galileo, Heinlein, Robert A.
10 Heinlein, Robert A. Rocket Ship Galileo
New York Charles Scribner's Sons 1947 First Edition Hardcover Good with no dust jacket
Illustrated by Voter, Thomas W.

Black cloth, 212 pp, 4 b/w full page illustrations, front board has the outline of a rocket in flight (in green) heading for the Moon in the upper right corner. First edition of Heinlein's first published book, with the Scribner's 'A' and seal on copyright page and 2 rear endpapers. 1/4" tear at top of spine, and another, nearly closed tear near the base. Spine slightly cocked, corners scuffed and bent in (especially the lower corners), minor edge wear with some rubbing and scuffing to boards. 'Science fiction' inked on front paste down, small spot on page 17/18, opposite the first illustration, otherwise text is clean and unmarked.
Front end paper has this note, in ink: 'Donated to the University of Detroit High School Library on November 9, 1951 by ----------, a student." However, there are no markings, stamps, or writing anywhere else in the book. It appears unlikely this was ever in a circulating library.

A long time science fiction classic of the first flight to the moon, this was one of Heinlein's novels written in the 40's and 50's to young adults.
"They called themselves the Galileo Club - not a bad name for a group of space-minded young men who had high hopes of putting one of their homemade rocket ships in orbit. But it wasn't until they teamed up with Doc Cargraves that their impossible dream became an incredible reality.
"Suddenly the three Earthbound youths and their mentor were hurtling through space, heading for the barren wasteland of the Moon. Or so they thought. They were totally unaware that the dark crater shadows concealed a threat beyond their wildest imaginings . . . a threat from which only a miracle could save them!"; 7" - 9" Tall
